Biography of Boris Timonkin

Date of Birth: 01.08.1951

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kiev. In 1973, he graduated from the Kiev Institute of National Economy (now - Kyiv National University of Economics named after Vadym Hetman). Doctor of Economic Sciences (1980).

Career. From 1993 to 1994, he was the head of the Kiev branch of the First Ukrainian International Bank (FUIB). From 1994 to 2001, he held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Board of FUIB. From 2001 to July 2013, he was the Chairman of the Board of the joint-stock commercial bank Ukrsozbank.

Awards. In 2006, he ranked 74th in the ranking 'TOP-100. The most influential people of Ukraine' of the magazine 'Korrespondent'. In 2007, he was the winner in the category 'Banker of the Year - 2007' of the 'MasterCard. Bank of the Year' competition. He was named one of the TOP-3 best bank managers in the country in 2007 in the all-Ukrainian rating program 'Galician Contracts'.

Holder of an honorary diploma in the ranking 'TOP-100. The best top managers of Ukraine' in the category 'Best top manager of a commercial bank'. Criminal Case. In 2014, Boris Timonkin was wanted by the National Police of Ukraine. On June 16, 2015, Timonkin was arrested at Berlin Airport for extradition to Ukraine. He is accused of being a member of the criminal group of Sergey Kurchenko. He is charged with document forgery and embezzlement of state property on a particularly large scale. It primarily concerns the illegal trade of liquefied gas. In July 2015, a German court released Boris Timonkin on bail. Later, Timonkin asked the German authorities for refugee status. In May 2017, Deputy Attorney General Yevhen Yenin stated that Germany refused to extradite former Chairman of Ukrsozbank Boris Timonkin to Ukraine.

Family. Boris Timonkin is married. He has six children.
