Jan Tadeusz Tombinski

Jan Tadeusz Tombinski - Polish and European diplomat, permanent representative of the Republic of Poland to the European Union (2007-2012), ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine (2012-2016) and to the Holy See (2016-2020).

Place of birth. Education. Born in Krakow (Poland). Graduated from Jagiellonian University with a master's degree in German studies (1984) and history (1985).

Career. From 1985 to 1987 - librarian at Jagiellonian University, from 1987 to 1989 - lecturer, senior lecturer at the Institute of History of the Jagiellonian University.

From 1990 to 1995 - worked at the Polish embassy in the Czech Republic.

From 1995 to 1998 - worked at the Polish embassy in Slovenia (including from 1996 to 1998 as ambassador).

From 1996 to 1999 - Polish ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From 1998 to 2001 - worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. Served as an advisor to the Minister on foreign policy relations with European countries.

From 2001 to 2006 - Polish ambassador to France.

From 2007 to 2012 - permanent representative of Poland to the European Union.

2012-2016 - head of the European Union delegation in Ukraine (prior to Tombinski, the head of the EU delegation in Kyiv was Portuguese diplomat José Manuel Pinto Teixeira). In the fall of 2016, Tombinski was succeeded in this position by Hugues Mingarelli.

From 2016 to 2020 - head of the European Union's delegation to the Vatican.

Family. Married, ten children.
