Bronze medalist of the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. Denys Jurtschenko's medal was earned by clearing a height of 5.70 m and qualifying for the final with 5.65 m. Gold in this discipline was won by Australian Steve Hooker (5.90 m), silver went to Russian Yevgeny Lukyanenko (5.80 m).

In August 2015, re-analysis began to identify doping from the stored samples from the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

The review of Denys Jurtschenko's samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive finding for the banned substance - Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (Turinabol). By the order of the Disciplinary Commission of the International Olympic Committee dated November 17, 2016, he was disqualified along with 16 other athletes and the bronze medal was revoked.
