Biography of Ekaterina Zgladze-Gluchsman

Date of Birth: 18.06.1978

Place of Birth. Education. She was born in 1978 in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. In 1992, she received a scholarship under the Freedom Support Act program. She studied at an American school in Oklahoma, USA for one year. After that, she continued her studies at Tbilisi State University at the Institute of International Journalism.

Career. After graduating from university, she worked as a translator in international organizations. From 2004 to 2005, she worked in the Georgian office of the U.S. government agency Millennium Challenge Corporation in the organization 'Millennium Challenge - Georgia'.

From 2005 to 2012, she held the position of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia. She was significantly involved in the restructuring of the Georgian police.

From September 20 to October 25, 2012, she served as the acting Minister of Police and Public Order in Georgia.

On December 13, 2014, she was granted Ukrainian citizenship by President Petro Poroshenko.

On December 17, 2014, Ekaterina Zgladze-Gluchsman was appointed as the first deputy minister of internal affairs of Ukraine under Arsen Avakov during a cabinet meeting.

On May 11, 2016, she submitted her resignation as the first deputy minister of internal affairs. In her statement, she emphasized that she would remain in the team and would lead a specially created group of advisors upon Minister Avakov's offer. Avakov himself stated that Zgladze's dismissal was related to family circumstances.

On February 13, 2018, Deputy Minister for the Issues of Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, Yuriy Grymchak, stated that Eka Zgladze had renounced Ukrainian citizenship and resumed Georgian citizenship.

Personal Life. At the age of 20, she married the famous Georgian showman Giorgi Palavandishvili and divorced after 12 years of marriage. In 2011, she married French journalist and director Raphaël Glucksmann, advisor to Mikheil Saakashvili and son of the well-known philosopher and writer André Glucksmann. From her second marriage, Ekaterina Zgladze has a son, Alexander. This second marriage also ended in divorce.
