Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira (José Manuel Pinto Teixeira) - Portuguese diplomat, head of the European Union representation in Ukraine (from October 16, 2008 to September 1, 2012).
Place of birth. Education. Born in 1952 in Portugal. Graduated from the Naval Academy. Served as an officer in the Portuguese Navy.
He graduated from the University of Lisbon and received postgraduate education at the Norwegian Technical University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Career. After working as head of international projects in South Africa and the Middle East, he joined the European Commission in 1988. He worked in the representation of the European Commission in Swaziland and in the Portuguese Foreign Ministry during the first Portuguese presidency of the European Community in 1992.
From 1992 to 1994, he served as an official in the European Commission representation in Angola.
From 1994 to 1996, he was responsible for humanitarian aid of the European Commission in the Caucasus (in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Chechnya, and Ingushetia).
From 1996 to 1998, he headed the humanitarian mission assistance of the European Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
From 1998 to 2002, he was the ambassador of the European Commission in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and from 2002 to 2005 in Mozambique.
Before his appointment as ambassador of the European Commission in Ukraine, he was responsible for relations with southern African countries at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels.
On October 16, 2008, he presented his credentials to the Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and took over the position of head of the European Commission representation in Ukraine in the rank of ambassador. On September 1, 2012, he was succeeded in this position by Jan Tombinski.
In 2012, he took over the management of the European Union representation in Cape Verde as part of the rotation.
