Abnormally warm December in Ukraine: meteorologists explain the reasons and forecast for the week.

According to ТСН: The abnormally warm December air in Ukraine is caused by warm air masses from the south, as well as global climate changes. This December is expected to be on average 2 degrees warmer than usual. For example, on December 7, the average daily temperature was 3-5 degrees above the norm.

Weather changes

However, in some regions, winter will still remind of itself. In the east and northeast, precipitation in the form of wet snow is forecasted. In particular, on the evening of December 7, wet snow is possible in Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv, but the snow cover will not last long.

Overall, cloudy weather with slight clearings in the south, particularly in Odesa region and partially in the center, will prevail in Ukraine. Throughout the week, weather changes are expected due to several atmospheric fronts.

“Even in the coming days, the synoptic situation in Ukraine will change. Atmospheric pressure will slowly decrease, and due to cyclones over Scandinavia, atmospheric fronts will begin to move from the northwest. They will affect the territory of Ukraine and diversify local weather,” says Ptukha.

Temperature indicators

According to forecasts, on December 10-11, daytime temperatures in the east and northeast will fluctuate between +1°...+7°. In other regions, night temperatures are expected from 0° to +7°, and daytime +4°...+11°.

On December 12-13, night temperatures will range from 0° to +6°, and during the day +3°...+9°, in the south — up to +12°. However, in the northeast, even during the day, temperatures will remain at 0...+6°.

In the eastern regions, a small amount of wet snow is possible on December 13. At the end of the week, it might be down to -6° frost in the west, while during the day, temperatures in the south will fluctuate from +3° to +9°.

Forecast for Kyiv

In Kyiv, on December 10, light rain is expected at night with temperatures +2°...+4°, during the day +6°...+8°.

On December 11, some clearings are possible in the capital, but light rain is also forecasted. Temperatures will rise to +4°...+6° at night and +8°...+10° during the day.

On December 12, it will rain again, and temperatures will not exceed +8°. On December 13, thermometers will drop to +4°...+6° throughout the day.

It should be noted that the head of the Department of Applied Meteorology and Climatology of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute, Vira Balabukh, was striking with the winter forecast. The average temperature is projected to be even higher than previously expected and will reach 3-4 degrees above the norm. This will be most felt in the western and northern regions of Ukraine.
