The Economist: The war is going badly. Ukraine and its allies must change course.
Ukraine and its supporters must acknowledge their losses if they want to win. For the past two years, Russia and Ukraine have been waging a war of attrition. Russia continues to move forward in the east, and Ukraine suffers from deaths, injuries, and destruction. Ukraine also has problems with energy supply and army mobilization. To change the situation, it is necessary to change the course of action.
Ukraine needs military support and security guarantees. It must be able to deny Russia any offensives and demonstrate the futility of belligerent actions. In addition, Ukraine needs to develop its own arms industry and requires support in this from other countries. NATO membership can also provide additional protection for Ukraine.
The continuation of the war could lead to the radicalization of the population and the intensification of hostile relations with Russia. The West must advance new plans and provide Ukraine with the necessary support. If this is not done, it could lead to danger for Ukraine and the world as a whole.
