The Helsinki Commission emphasizes that the USA should review its approach to Russia as it has done with China and accordingly allocate resources.
The priority objective is to ensure Ukraine's victory in the defensive war against Russia. The commission calls for massive aid to Kyiv and for allowing Ukraine's armed forces to strike deep into Russia.
The report's proposals contradict the stance of Trump and his allies in Congress. Wilson emphasized that Trump would not be able to achieve a significant deal with Putin, as he is not reliable enough for cooperation.
The report calls for preparing for a long-term confrontation with Russia and addressing problems with common sense. It also recommends increasing engagement with allies and focusing on soft power, such as education and people-to-people exchanges.
