Trump plans to discuss trade relations with Canada and the European Union

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that he intends to speak with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on February 3. This conversation will take place less than a day before the implementation of U.S. tariffs on goods from Canada.

Trudeau himself previously stated that since the inauguration he has been trying to reach Trump but has not received a response to his calls.

'Tomorrow morning I will talk to Prime Minister Trudeau, tomorrow morning I will talk to Mexico. And I do not expect anything very dramatic. We have imposed tariffs. They owe us a lot of money, and I am sure they will pay,' Trump told reporters on Sunday.

In addition to announcing future conversations, Trump again threatened to impose additional tariffs against the European Union, accusing it of having 'exceeded all limits'. He claimed that the EU does not buy American agricultural products and cars. However, this is not true, reports CNN.

According to a report by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association published in December 2023, the EU is the second-largest market for U.S. car exports. Furthermore, the U.S. government claims that the EU purchased $12.3 billion worth of American agricultural products in 2023.
