According to ТСН: The main New Year tree of the country officially lit up in Kyiv's Sofiivska Square. This year, despite the martial law, the capital decided to keep the tradition to bring a little light and Christmas wonder to children and adults.

This year introduced a new feature: for the first time in history, Kyiv residents and guests could take part in decorating the main tree. This artificial tree, 16 meters tall, shines in various colors – from warm gold to rich blue, green, and purple.

Theme and symbolism

Kyiv's mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, who spoke about the decoration details on his Telegram channel, was present at the opening ceremony. This year's decoration theme is inspired by the ancient frescoes of St. Sophia of Kyiv, which convey warmth and "soft shades of time."

The tree is decorated with four and a half thousand toys and illuminated with warm garlands. The idea is to transform the New Year tree into a symbolic place of power, light, and a quiet winter holiday.

Celebration thanks to defenders

The mayor emphasized that even in wartime, such moments of joy are important for the psychological state of society.

"Our children should have a holiday, there should be moments of joy. Positive emotions are needed for adults as well," Klitschko noted.

He also added that Ukrainians can feel this atmosphere exclusively thanks to the bravery of the military.

"First of all, we thank our defenders for giving us the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the holiday and hope for miracles. We honor the bravery and feat of every soldier!" the mayor congratulated everyone on the upcoming Day of St. Nicholas.

It is also known that in Lviv, the main city tree has already been installed, which is a living tree gifted by the residents of the village of Sokilnyky.

The official opening of the main tree in Kyiv was an important moment for the city residents, during which it was possible to bring a festive atmosphere even in difficult times. Such initiatives give people hope and joy, which are needed during these challenging holidays. Symbols of hope and unity merge with small but significant moments of joy that unite Ukrainians in these hard times.
