At the Ministry of Finance, the likelihood of restoring air travel was assessed.
Air travel may resume after hostilities
Air travel in Ukraine may be restored before the end of hostilities, but it all depends on the development of the situation on the battlefield, said Deputy Minister of Finance Oleksandr Kava.
'This is possible even before the end of hostilities, but it all depends on the development of the situation on the battlefield. The main thing here is passenger safety... no one wants to take risks. We are in dialogue, but we cannot expect quick decisions at the moment, as ensuring safety is paramount,' Kava said at the Infrastructure Day organized by the European Business Association (EBA), Interfax-Ukraine reports.
Kava emphasized that Ukraine is interested in restoring air travel as soon as possible.
'The main thing is safety. There are many risks, starting from the fact that people cluster at the airport, and where can they hide during an air raid? Our airports are not equipped with shelters,' Kava pointed out.
According to the Deputy Minister, the problem is forecasting the schedules of passenger flights.
He also reminded that it takes 7 minutes from Lviv Airport to the airspace of Poland and 45 minutes from Boryspil Airport.
Kava noted that the situation in Ukraine is different from the case of Israel, which is often compared to our situation, as 'our enemy does not have such technological capabilities as the enemy we are fighting.'
