Ukraine accused Russia of appropriating victory in World War II.
The Ukrainian representative at the UN, Kristina Gayovishin, reported that Russia is trying to usurp the victory over Hitler and accuses Ukraine of waging an aggressive war. She stated that Russia justifies mass violence under the pretext of denazification and attempts to divert attention from its crimes.
Gayovishin emphasized that Russia's war against Ukraine is a consequence of the failure of global deterrence mechanisms created after World War II. She urged not to forget the reasons and preconditions that led to the war and noted that the catastrophe occurred due to the indecision of the civilized world, which signed agreements with the Nazis.
Gayovishin stressed that peace must be secured by force, countering the aggressor and forcing him to peace.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution 'Eighty Years since the End of World War II', authored by Russia, Belarus, China, Serbia, and Venezuela. The document calls on all states and UN structures to honor the memory of the war victims.
