EU Accession by 2030? Ukraine Opens First Negotiation Cluster.
Ukraine and Moldova Enter EU Negotiations
According to Novyny.live: On June 15, 2023, Ukraine took a major step forward by formally launching the first cluster of accession talks with the European Union. This development also involves Moldova, highlighting a coordinated push by both nations to align more closely with European structures. The timeline for full membership could span several years.
The negotiation process is divided into six thematic clusters, covering 35 distinct policy areas. These include:
- Cluster 1 – Fundamentals (justice, rights, and freedoms)
- Cluster 2 – Internal Market
- Cluster 3 – Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth
- Cluster 4 – Green Agenda and Sustainable Connectivity
- Cluster 5 – Resources, Agriculture, and Cohesion
- Cluster 6 – External Relations
Authorities aim to open all six clusters by the end of July 2023.
The European Commission confirmed that 'all EU member states have agreed to launch the first phase of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.'
Under an optimistic scenario, Ukraine could join the EU as early as 2030. These negotiations carry profound significance for both countries, as they seek deeper integration into the European sphere and improvements in their economic and political ties with Europe.
Launching EU talks marks a pivotal moment for Ukraine and Moldova as they work to strengthen their global standing and raise living standards for their citizens. With membership on the horizon, both nations stand to gain economic benefits, a more attractive investment climate, and access to the single market. This process also holds the potential to stabilize the region politically and deepen cooperation with other European states.
