June civilian death toll in Ukraine hits record high since early 2022, UN reports.
Sharp rise in civilian casualties across Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, announced that civilian casualties in Ukraine reached their highest monthly level in June 2026 since April 2022. Since Russia's full-scale invasion began, at least 16,402 civilians have been killed, including 802 children. Additionally, 48,428 people have been wounded, among them 2,948 children.
According to the UN, Russian attacks on Ukraine have claimed at least 1,270 civilian lives over the past year and a half, with more than 6,000 people injured. The June 2026 casualty figure marks a 40% increase compared to the same month last year.
Rosemary DiCarlo: 'Any attacks on civilians or civilian infrastructure, no matter where they occur, are a clear violation of international humanitarian law and must stop immediately.'
Humanitarian crisis deepens in Ukraine
These numbers highlight the severe humanitarian situation in Ukraine, driven by ongoing military operations that continue to endanger the lives and health of ordinary citizens.
The rising civilian death toll underscores the critical nature of the prolonged conflict. The UN is calling for an immediate halt to violence and full compliance with international humanitarian law, as continued hostilities directly threaten the safety and well-being of non-combatants.
This data may inform international efforts and responses aimed at aiding victims and preventing further civilian losses.
