Umerov revealed details of secret negotiations with Russia.
Ukraine conducted secret negotiations with Russia through international partners
Ukraine conducted secret indirect negotiations with Russia in 2022 with the help of international partners. These negotiations had several directions for discussion.
This was reported by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, in his interview with The Washington Post.
According to Umerov, the United States was always aware of these negotiations, as the Ukrainian side always consulted with them on all issues.
Umerov also stated that the result of these secret negotiations was the opening of a "humanitarian corridor," which allowed 400,000 Ukrainians to leave the territories temporarily occupied by Russia. There were also exchanges of prisoners of war, political prisoners, and wounded soldiers. Additionally, a "grain agreement" was concluded, which helped Ukraine resume the export of agricultural products through the Black Sea.
US representatives confirmed the fact of the secret negotiations held in 2022, when Russia threatened to use tactical nuclear weapons.
"When I asked Umerov if such backstage negotiations continue now, he said that the humanitarian path is still open," noted the author of the article, David Ignatius.
Let us recall that the military has already announced the key achievements of the Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
