The United States and the Russian Federation have agreed to release Mark Vogel - an American teacher who was imprisoned in Russia. This was reported by US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

According to him, Steve Wittecoff, the US presidential special envoy to the Middle East, made a trip to Russia to conduct negotiations for Vogel's release.

'Today, President Donald Trump and his special envoy Steve Wittecoff can announce that Mr. Wittecoff is leaving Russian airspace together with Mark Vogel,' Waltz noted in his statement.

Let us remind you that Mark Vogel was detained in August 2021 at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. He was found with 17 grams of marijuana, which he claimed to use for medical purposes due to chronic back pain. In June 2022, a Russian court sentenced the American teacher to 14 years in prison.
