Russian boxing champion in annexed Crimea loses eye in street fight.
Dmytro Dvali, European and Russian boxing champion, may lose an eye due to his involvement in a street fight. According to Russian media reports, the athlete came to the annexed Feodosia (Crimea) for a master class for young boxers. After a morning run along the embankment on July 28, he noticed about 15 men beating a boy. Dvali intervened to defend the boy and as a result suffered an eye injury.
Dvali was urgently taken to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a fractured orbital bone. Medical professionals are trying to save the eye as an organ, but after the injury, the boxer may only see shadows and silhouettes. There is also a possibility that Dvali will receive a prosthesis as a replacement for the damaged eye.
Dmytro Dvali, who is the 23-year-old European champion of 2024 and the bronze medalist of the 2023 World Championship, sustained this injury as a result of intervention in a street conflict. This is another example of violence that only does harm, especially to a well-known athlete. Such situations demonstrate the need to ensure the safety and protection of people in public places.
