The veterinarian named the most difficult dog breed to care for: why the coat becomes a problem.
According to ТСН: The veterinarian shared information about the most challenging dog breed to care for. According to Julie Hunt, owners often do not expect how much time and effort will be needed for grooming their pets.
The difficulty of caring for the Bergamasco Shepherd
In Hunt's opinion, the most difficult breed to care for is the Bergamasco Shepherd. The unique coat of this breed consists of three types of hair: undercoat, wool, and coarse 'goat-like' hair. It can easily mat and form dreadlocks, which requires a special approach since they cannot simply be brushed like most dogs. The most challenging period is from one to two years old, when the coat is actively changing and requires special attention. Therefore, the veterinarian recommends consulting a groomer who has experience with this breed.
Less demanding breeds
In contrast, there are breeds that are significantly easier to care for. As Hunt notes, short-haired and small dogs generally require less effort since they shed less and require professional grooming less frequently.
- Chihuahuas – their short coat almost does not require brushing, and bathing is only done when necessary.
- Russell Terriers are also characterized by ease of care; periodic baths are sufficient if they get dirty.
- Greyhounds – an excellent choice for large dog lovers, as their short coat requires minimal care, usually just weekly brushing.
- Vizslas – recommended to be brushed about once a month.
- Short-haired Dachshunds, despite frequent walks, rarely need groomer help. The main thing is to keep the belly clean, which often comes into contact with dirt.
Experts emphasize that before getting a dog, it is important to objectively assess your capabilities, as beautiful fur is not only a matter of aesthetics, but also a daily responsibility.
We remind you, a dog trainer from the USA advised dog owners to refrain from the usual 'no' during puppy training.
When choosing a dog, consider not only its appearance but also the needs of your future friend. It is especially important to understand that some breeds will require more of your effort and time to maintain their health and care. Only by weighing all these factors can you find the perfect companion for yourself.
