In Vuhledar, several Russian brigades, regiments, and units stormed. The city was defended by the 72nd Mechanized Brigade, which was reinforced by two Topographic Reconnaissance Battalions. Commander Oleksandr Okhrimenko, commander of the 72nd Brigade, detailed the last days of the city's defense in an interview with "Glavkom".

He informed that Russian brigades and regiments stood against them, including the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 29th Army of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the 39th Motorized Rifle Brigade, the 57th Brigade, the 91st Rifle Regiment, and other units. The enemy forces were significantly superior in tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery systems, anti-tank weapons, and personnel. The relative force ratio was almost 1:9 in favor of the enemy. Okhrimenko stated that the chances of holding the city and the defense line were very small, given the enemy's advantage.

Okhrimenko became the commander of the 72nd Brigade in September, when Vuhledar was already surrounded by enemy forces. The induction of the new commander into the position was aimed at withdrawing the last units from the city. On October 2, the General Staff officially reported that Ukrainian troops had left Vuhledar.

Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko answered questions about how they managed to exit Vuhledar, why they hadn't withdrawn earlier, and what the situation is on this section of the front. Other interesting materials can be found in the "See Also:" blocks.
