According to information from his agent, the Hollywood legend passed away in his sleep at the age of 89 on September 16, 2025.

Who is Robert Redford?
Robert Redford was born in Santa Monica, California, on August 18, 1936.
After finishing school, he studied at the University of Colorado for a year and a half before being expelled.
Then he traveled around Europe, studying painting in New York, and later took acting courses at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Redford's first roles were on stage, and his Broadway debut took place in 1959 in a small role in the play 'Tall Story'.
Since 1960, he began appearing in television shows, receiving an Emmy nomination for his performance in The Voice Of Charlie Pont.
However, true popularity came with leading roles in films for which he won a Golden Globe for Best New Star in 1965 for In Daisy Clover.
His performance in Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid made him a superstar, and he continued to star in numerous blockbusters, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 1973 for The Sting.
Robert also became a well-known director, winning an Oscar for Best Director in 1980 for Ordinary People, which also won the award for Best Picture.
He received another Oscar – a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, and in 2016 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.
In 1981, Redford founded the Sundance Institute, named after his iconic role in the film that made him a global star.
This non-profit organization supports the development of independent artists and became the foundation for the successful Sundance Film Festival, held annually in Utah.
