The deputy commander of the battalion was detained for bribery: details of the scandal in Transcarpathia.
According to inkorr.com: A scheme of corrupt demands involving the deputy commander of the battalion was uncovered in Transcarpathia. This information was made public by the State Bureau of Investigation after conducting an investigation.
The bribery extortion system
According to the SBI, the official systematically demanded bribes to resolve various issues – from 30 thousand hryvnias to 3 thousand US dollars. For example, even the issue of transferring to another unit required significant expenses.
'During the implementation of one of the 'deals', the deputy commander offered a soldier who had returned after unlawfully leaving the unit for 1 thousand US dollars to help with the transfer to a rear position.'
Detention and consequences
The official was detained in April 2025 with the participation of the military counterintelligence of the SBU. He was charged with receiving bribes, which may be punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment with property confiscation according to the law.
As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that one of the military officials abused his position, demanding bribes even for the simplest issues. This is a serious offense, and an investigation is currently underway to establish all the details of the corruption scheme.
The situation surrounding this case highlights the problem of corruption in Ukrainian military structures. Such actions hinder normal functioning and undermine trust in law enforcement agencies, which is particularly dangerous in the face of contemporary challenges. Currently, the investigation continues, and society expects transparency and accountability in the investigation of this incident.
