Zelensky started a meeting with Biden at the White House: he will present Ukraine's 'victory plan'.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington, where the meeting with US President Joe Biden started at the White House.
During the meeting, Zelensky expressed gratitude to the US for the provided assistance and work on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. He also emphasized the shared vision of Ukraine's future in the EU and NATO.
The visit of the Ukrainian leader caused some controversies. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called on Republicans to drop demands for an investigation into the alleged political nature of Zelensky's visit to a plant in Pennsylvania. She recalled that two months ago, the President of Ukraine held a similar event with a Republican governor in the state of Utah.
Zelensky also met with a bipartisan delegation of the US Senate, where he presented key aspects of the Victory Plan. The meeting was attended by Senate Democratic and Republican leaders Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell. The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to both Senate parties for their comprehensive support in military, economic, energy, and humanitarian spheres.
During the discussion with the senators, the main focus was on the situation at the front, the needs of Ukrainian military personnel, and key directions for further American support. Zelensky emphasized that it is extremely important for Ukraine to receive additional air defense systems and missiles for them.
Separately, the issues of increasing sanctions pressure on Russia and the possibility of using revenues from frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's needs were discussed.
