Ukraine Targets Russian Telecoms: 10 Operators Sanctioned for Aiding Occupying Forces.
New Sanctions Hit Russian Mobile Network Providers
According to UATV: On June 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on 10 Russian mobile operators and internet providers. These companies have been supplying communication services to Russian occupation troops stationed in temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine. This move is part of Kyiv's broader effort to disrupt military logistics and command capabilities on the frontlines.
Companies Blacklisted
The sanctioned entities include:
- Luhansk Communications
- Mobile Communication Systems
- Amtel-Svyaz
- Space Communications
These firms deliver mobile and internet connectivity in regions under Russian military control, directly supporting enemy operations.
It is critical to note that any commercial activity in Ukraine's temporarily occupied territories is considered illegal under Ukrainian law. The sanctions aim to cut off resources that Russian forces rely on for combat coordination and logistical support.
By targeting these telecom operators, Ukraine is tightening the screws on occupation forces while underscoring the international community's backing for its sovereignty. The restrictions also help reduce security risks in conflict-affected zones by limiting enemy access to communication tools used for military purposes.
Looking ahead, such measures could assist Ukraine in gradually reasserting control over its lost territories.
