President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Pope Francis on October 11, 2024, at the Vatican. The meeting took place at the Apostolic Palace, where important issues regarding the situation in Ukraine and humanitarian aid were discussed.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Pope for prayers for peace in Ukraine, spiritual support, and humanitarian aid. He also emphasized the Vatican's participation in the first Peace Summit and spoke about work on implementing the Peace Formula.

Special attention was given to the issue of prisoners and deported Ukrainians. Zelensky reported on an upcoming conference on the return of prisoners in Canada and invited a Vatican representative to participate in this event.

The President noted that among the prisoners are wounded, severely ill, women, and children. He also drew attention to the problem of forced relocation and deportation of Ukrainian children by Russia.

Zelensky also requested the Pope to assist in the return of Ukrainian journalists, public figures, and community leaders from occupied territories. According to the President, about 400 women are held in Russian captivity, and the total number of civilian prisoners is 1700 people, but this number is likely to be higher.

Zelensky emphasized that many prisoners need medical assistance and rehabilitation after being released.
