The volume of Ukrainian agricultural exports has sharply increased over nine months.
Agricultural exports increased by 9.9 million tons
The State Customs Service announced that in the first nine months of 2024, the volume of Ukrainian agricultural exports increased by 9.9 million tons. This represents more than a quarter of the total export volume. The value of exported goods grew by 1.4 billion dollars.
According to customs data, from January to September 2024, Ukraine exported 48.9 million tons of agricultural products valued at 10.5 billion dollars.
The main reason for this growth was the restoration of sea connectivity. As a result, as of today, 89% of the total volume of agricultural exports was carried out by sea transport. On land, exporters prefer rail transport, with only 2% of goods being moved by road transport
It is noted that the main exported agricultural products remain cereals. In the first 9 months, 42.3 million tons of cereals were exported at a value of 7.1 billion dollars. Another significant component of exports is seeds and oilseeds. The value of these goods amounts to 2.2 billion dollars, with a volume of 5 million tons.
Features of agricultural imports
Regarding imports, the situation has somewhat different characteristics. About 80% of all imported agricultural products from Ukraine arrived by road, nearly 18% by sea, and 2% by rail. This is mainly related to imports from European countries, where goods are delivered via various means of transport.
In total, Ukraine imported 978.8 thousand tons of agricultural products at a value of 1.7 billion dollars. The largest share of imports consists of edible fruits and nuts - 468 thousand tons, valued at 563.8 million dollars. A significant amount of vegetables was also imported - 194.2 thousand tons (246.6 million dollars), as well as oilseeds - 50.2 thousand tons valued at 346.5 million dollars.
