Court obliges Russia to pay 65 million to the mother of a deceased soldier

The Drohobych District Court of the Lviv Region ruled in favor of the mother of a deceased Ukrainian soldier, obliging Russia to pay her 65 million hryvnias in compensation. The court believes that the woman has the right to moral compensation for the loss of her son.

The woman filed a lawsuit after her son was killed as a result of shelling by Russian troops. She demanded compensation for the psychological suffering caused by the loss of a loved one due to Russia's aggression.

“By carrying out illegal military aggression against Ukraine, which led to the death of her son, Russia deprived her of the meaning of life and hope for the future. The energy of a lost loved one hinders normal communication and life activity. The loss is not only heavy but also profound. The responsibility for this lies with the Russian Federation, which unlawfully and mercilessly invaded the territory of Ukraine and took her son's life.”

Having considered all the circumstances of the case, the court established that Russia should compensate the mother for her losses and mental trauma. Although the decision can be appealed, it is significant as evidence at the international level.

Possible consequences of the court's decision

This verdict may serve as significant evidence in international tribunals related to violations of international law in the context of Russia's military actions in Ukraine. Existing precedents show that such court decisions can have an impact on the investigation of war crimes.

The court also emphasized that rulings on compensation for losses during the war can play an important role in international legal processes, helping to identify those guilty of war crimes.
