Zelensky and Mitsotakis signed a gas agreement: what Ukraine will gain

Meeting of the President of Ukraine with the Prime Minister of Greece

In Athens, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis. This meeting ended with the signing of a Letter of Intent regarding the supply of natural gas to Ukraine for the winter period. The leaders also discussed the possibility of supplying American natural gas through Greece.

'Our agreements with Greece today are an important part of the large energy package we have prepared for this winter to ensure Ukraine has gas. I want to thank you once again, dear friend. Thank your team and the companies for making this possible,' Zelensky noted.

The signing of the agreement also involved the chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhiy Koretsky and the CEO of the Greek company DEPA Commercial Konstantinos Xifaras. This document provides for the transportation of gas to Ukraine through the gas transmission systems of five European countries.

Experts warn of changes in energy prices

Energy expert Mykhailo Shuster emphasized that energy will no longer be available in Ukraine. According to him, previous years have shown that energy facilities have already paid off, and most funding is spent on fuel and salaries. The introduction of new energy facilities is becoming unprofitable due to significant costs.

'I emphasize, not because it [solar energy] is expensive, but because new energy construction is very expensive. If electricity is expensive at old facilities, then with the need to introduce new capacities, it will rise to very-very high levels.'

Thus, the meeting of the President of Ukraine with the Prime Minister of Greece was an important step in ensuring the supply of natural gas, which may positively impact the energy security of the country. At the same Time, experts warn of a possible change in energy prices, which could lead to an increase in costs for both the population and businesses.
