In Transnistria, an ukrainian flag was raised.

In Bendery, a city controlled by the unrecognized state of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the Ukrainian community raised the blue-yellow flag. The photos were published by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova.

The flag was raised on the territory of the Bendery Fortress.

«Today, the blue-yellow flag is hoisted in the Bendery Fortress of the Pridnestrovian region of the Republic of Moldova!» - says the message.

Thus, the community marked the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine.

History of the Bendery Fortress

The strategic importance of the Bendery Fortress for Ukrainian historiography lies in the fact that in 1709, after the Battle of Poltava, hetman Ivan Mazepa retreated here, where he retired. In the following year of 1710 in the city of Bendery, Phillip Orlik made an agreement with the Cossacks, which defined the rights and obligations of the hetman, known to us as the Constitution of Philip Orlik, or the Bendery Constitution.

On April 9, 2010, a monument to the Constitution of Philip Orlik was opened on the territory of the fortress to mark its 300th anniversary.

It should be reminded that every year on August 23, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the State Flag. This holiday was established by the decree of the President of Ukraine on August 23, 2004 «in honor of the centuries-old history of the Ukrainian state formation, the state symbols of independent Ukraine and with the aim of educating citizens to respect the state symbols of Ukraine».

Today, during the celebrations on the occasion of the State Flag Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainians stand up for the right to justice and freedom. The head of state emphasized that Ukraine will defend its independence and restore the country.

«In this war, we are primarily defending for Ukraine, for Ukrainians precisely the right to justice, to their, to freedom, to their national dignity, to their security, to their own state and to ensure that criminals who came to destroy Ukraine, who brought ruins precisely to our home, will definitely have ruins in their own homes», Zelensky said.

Ministers Rustem Umirov, Denys Shmyhal, and Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak were present at the raising of the State Flag ceremony.
