According to South Korean intelligence, Ukraine compensates the financial and food problems of the DPRK by an agreement to provide military support.

"Financial and food crises in the country (DPRK - ed.) are largely resolved thanks to Russian compensation for its contribution to military actions (against Ukraine - ed.)", - writes The Korea Herald, Ukrinform reports.

Vi Son Lak, former South Korean ambassador in Russia, reported that the agreement to involve DPRK troops in the war against Ukraine is beneficial for Pyongyang.

South Korea's intelligence service reported that every North Korean soldier sent to fight on the side of the Russian Federation will be paid a monthly salary of about $2000. It is assumed that at least 10,000 DPRK soldiers will be sent to Ukraine, which means that the total annual amount of payments will exceed $200 million.

It is also important to note that there are about 4,000 North Korean workers in Russia, whose average salary is about $800 per month.

Vi also reported that under the agreement, Russia will provide Pyongyang with food assistance. According to him, the DPRK produces less than 4 million tons of grain annually, including rice, barley, and wheat. But rice, it is believed, accounts for less than a third of the total volume, - the congressman noted.

"The four million tons of grain that, according to North Korea's information, it produces annually, is actually 1 million tons less than is needed to feed the country. If Russia offers 600-700 thousand tons of rice, then this is enough to cover more than half of what the DPRK needs to meet annual demand", - emphasized Vi Son Lak.

He added that now, when Russia is buying artillery shells from the DPRK, the food shortage is likely compensated through the arms trade. "Having sold several containers of artillery shells, Pyongyang can afford much more than hundreds of thousands of tons of rice", - said the congressman.

The intelligence service also reported to parliament that Moscow is helping North Korea with advanced space technology, as Pyongyang intends to launch a new military reconnaissance satellite.

Furthermore, the agreement allows North Korea to fight alongside Russia on the Korean Peninsula in case of unforeseen circumstances, added Vi Son Lak.

"If a war ever breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, the DPRK can count on Russia's help", - he noted.
