January 9: the Day of Polyuctus, Signs and What Not to Do.
According to ТСН: Tomorrow, according to the Orthodox calendar, we will celebrate the day of remembrance of Saint Polyuctus. This saint is one of the outstanding Christian martyrs of the 4th century, honored in both the Orthodox and Catholic churches for his dedication to his faith and fearlessness in suffering. His life became an example of unwavering devotion to Christ even in the face of the most brutal persecutions.
Little is known about his childhood and youth. Historical sources indicate that he was born into a Roman family, likely with pagan traditions. Young Polyuctus stood out for his piety and sincere desire for spiritual life, which eventually became the impetus for his acceptance of Christianity.
Polyuctus became a Christian at a time when the Roman Empire actively persecuted believers. His conversion resulted from a profound spiritual search and conviction in the truth of the teachings of Jesus Christ. From the moment of his baptism, Polyuctus devoted his entire life to serving God, actively preaching the faith among those around him.
He lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284–305), known for his brutal persecutions of Christians. According to tradition, the saint was repeatedly urged to renounce his faith and worship Roman gods, but Polyuctus resolutely rejected these demands, emphasizing his steadfastness in faith.
His martyrdom became an example of courage: the saint was subjected to torture and cruel trials, yet he remained faithful to Christ until his last breath. Ultimately, Polyuctus was executed by order of the Roman authorities, and his martyr's death occurred around the beginning of the 4th century.
