Farewell letter from the British paratrooper who died in Ukraine: Be proud, not sad.
According to ТСН: The UK Ministry of Defence has released part of the farewell letter of 28-year-old Private George Guli, who died in early December in a tragic incident at a training ground in Ukraine, at the request of his family.
“Be proud, not sad”
In his letter, written in case of his death, Guli urged his loved ones not to let grief break them. He emphasized that he had consciously chosen his path and was proud of his mission.
“If you are reading this, it means I did not come home. Please do not let this break you. You know that I did what I believed in, alongside people I respected and loved, and for the things that matter to me – my country, democracy, and freedom in this world. I was proud of what I did. Do not remember me with sadness and loss. Be proud. I left doing what I was trained for, what I chose, and I carried all of you in my heart all this time,” wrote Guli.
Circumstances of the tragedy
The body of the paratrooper has already been repatriated to his homeland and buried with honors at a military cemetery in Oxfordshire. According to official reports, his death occurred on December 9, far from the front line.
Earlier, reports indicated a tragic accident during the testing of new defense capabilities by Ukrainian forces, including interceptor drones. In addition to the Briton, two Ukrainian soldiers are reported to have died, and there are also injuries.
This is the first confirmed case of a career British paratrooper's death in Ukraine. George Guli had significant combat experience in Afghanistan and Africa, and was expecting a promotion to Corporal in January.
The British ministry expressed hope that the soldier's heartfelt words would bring comfort to all who are experiencing the pain of loss.
This tragedy has drawn attention to the risks faced not only by Ukrainian soldiers but also by foreign contingents providing support as part of international assistance. George Guli's letter became a symbol of courage and dedication, highlighting the importance of the mission for which he fought until the end.
