Nearly 530 Drones Launched by Russia in a Single Week: Zelenskyy Highlights the Critical Weapon Needed.
Russian Forces Intensify Strikes Across Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Over the past seven days, Russian troops have carried out attacks on 11 different regions of Ukraine, deploying approximately 530 attack drones and two cruise missiles. Dozens of civilians have been wounded in these assaults, which also damaged agricultural enterprises, critical infrastructure, and a container ship. This sustained campaign underscores the escalating threat to Ukrainian communities and infrastructure.
On June 10, a direct strike hit a multi-story residential building in Kharkiv. The same night, Russian forces launched 207 attack drones across Ukraine, of which Ukrainian defense units managed to shoot down 181. These figures highlight both the intensity of the onslaught and the urgent need to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
The Imperative of Air Defense
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed that securing reliable air cover is paramount. He stated,
“Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts must focus on strengthening the protection of our skies”(Volodymyr Zelenskyy) and added that
“defending Ukraine is a prerequisite for diplomacy to work”(Volodymyr Zelenskyy). A key objective in international talks is securing deliveries of air defense systems, particularly PURL complexes. Decisions expected at the upcoming G7 and NATO summits could prove pivotal in enhancing Ukraine’s security.
Russia continues its relentless strikes on Ukraine while actively evading sanctions, posing a persistent threat to regional stability and safety.
These developments reflect a sharp escalation in hostilities and grave dangers for civilians in Ukraine. The scale of Russian military activity demands swift action from Ukrainian authorities and global partners to reinforce defensive capacities, notably through the supply of advanced air defense systems. The outcomes of the G7 and NATO summits may be decisive for ensuring security in the region and sustaining support for Ukraine amid ongoing attacks.
