AFP: Zelensky refused UN Secretary-General a visit to Kyiv due to his trip to Russia.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky refused to receive UN Secretary-General António Guterres following his participation in the BRICS summit in Russia.
This was reported by a high-ranking source in the Office of the President of Ukraine.
"After Kazan, Guterres wanted to come to Ukraine, but the president did not confirm his visit. So Guterres will not be here, precisely because of the humiliation of common sense and international law in Kazan," the source noted.
During the BRICS summit in Kazan, which became the largest diplomatic event in Russia since the beginning of the invasion, Guterres called for "a just peace" in Ukraine. He emphasized the need to cease hostilities that have lasted for more than two years.
The summit was attended by 20 world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine criticized Guterres's decision to visit Kazan, reminding that he was not present at the peace summit organized by Ukraine in Switzerland in June. "This is a wrong choice that does not contribute to the cause of peace. It only harms the reputation of the UN," the ministry statement said.
Let us remind you, Volodymyr Zelensky harshly commented on the UN and Putin's summit in Kazan.
