Cold Galvanization of Fences: How to Protect Metal from Rust for 30 Years.

According to ТСН: Metal fences are constantly exposed to moisture, snow, and temperature fluctuations, which causes even the highest quality materials to rust over time. Painting, unfortunately, only masks the problem: corrosion continues its destructive action beneath the layer of paint. That is why more and more people are choosing an alternative technology - cold galvanization, which provides long-lasting and effective protection.

Why Paint Does Not Solve the Problem of Metal Corrosion

Paint only creates an external barrier. If micro-cracks appear or the paint flakes off, moisture quickly penetrates the metal, and the rusting process continues. Anti-corrosion sprays also require regular updating and do not guarantee a stable result.

What Is the Essence of the Cold Galvanization Method

Cold galvanization involves applying a special agent with a high zinc content that provides active protection for the metal. The main requirement for such a mixture is not less than 95% zinc in its composition. This concentration guarantees a long-lasting effect. Zinc oxidizes faster than iron, so even when the coating is damaged, it 'takes the hit', protecting the metal base.

Before applying the composition, it is necessary to completely remove the rust, strip old paint and primer, and clean the surface from dust and dirt. The quality of fence preparation directly affects the service life of the protective layer.

How to Properly Apply Cold Zinc to a Metal Fence

  1. Apply the first layer evenly over the entire surface.

  2. Leave to dry for 3 hours.

  3. Apply a second layer that will significantly enhance the protection.

  4. Let the coating dry completely for 24 hours.

If necessary, after this, you can paint the fence any color - the zinc layer will become a reliable base. The treatment should only be done in dry weather, without rain or fog, at stable temperatures without sharp fluctuations. High humidity reduces the adhesion of the composition to the metal and significantly shortens the protection period.

By adhering to the cold galvanization technology:

  • protects metal from corrosion for up to 30 years;

  • reduces costs for repairs and repainting;

  • maintains the strength and appearance of the fence.

Choosing cold galvanization as a means of anti-corrosion protection allows significantly extending the service life of metal structures and reducing maintenance costs. Due to the simplicity of the application process and the relative availability of materials, this method is becoming increasingly popular among owners of summer cottages and country houses, so they can avoid frequent repairs and repainting expenses.
