Across the U.S., Americans and Ukrainians Rally to Mark War Anniversary.
U.S. Rallies in Support of Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On February 21-22, 2023, demonstrations supporting Ukraine were held across the United States, including in Washington, D.C., and Texas, to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion. These events, which also took place in California and Ohio, saw participation from both Ukrainians and Americans calling for continued aid to Ukraine, showcasing broad American public solidarity. The rallies highlight the sustained, cross-country backing for Ukraine within the United States, a key ally since the war began.
In Washington, D.C., hundreds gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, a site that has hosted pro-Ukraine rallies since 2022. The European Union's Ambassador to the U.S. attended the event, emphasizing the critical importance of supporting Ukraine.
“This year, we have seen like never before how we can 'arm' the winter.”
A rally in Texas on February 22nd similarly expressed solidarity with Ukraine. Participant Orest Yeina remarked:
“I have been supporting Ukraine for four years now. In this war, we are losing people who are dying defending Ukraine.”
These U.S. events served as a significant show of support, coming as over 200 billion euros in aid has been assembled for Ukraine. Participants voiced strong convictions, with one stating, “It is now the duty of every Ukrainian abroad to go out and stand up for Ukraine.” Attendee Mark Burns stressed the need for accountability: “We will not stop until every crime of Russia — every atrocity and every war crime — is investigated and the guilty are brought to justice.”
The Significance of the Support Rallies
These rallies marked an important moment in sustaining support for Ukraine, demonstrating unity and solidarity between Ukrainians and Americans in the fight for justice and peace.
The demonstrations across the United States reflect a lasting commitment from American society to assist Ukraine during the ongoing war. The substantial financial aid underscores the wide international backing that has become critically important for Ukraine's defense of its territorial integrity and sovereignty. These events also illustrate a growing awareness of the imperative for justice and human rights within the context of the prolonged conflict. Support from American communities remains a significant factor that can influence international policy and future assistance for Ukraine.
