According to UATV: Ukrainian Army General Mykola Malomuzh has warned that Russian forces are escalating their assaults in the Donetsk region, particularly along the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka axis, while also attempting to capture the cities of Lyman and Sloviansk. According to him, the Russian military command has already adjusted its deadline for seizing Donetsk 20 times, with the latest target set for the end of the year. On July 22 alone, Russian troops launched 261 assaults on Ukrainian positions along the front line, highlighting the intense combat activity. The Pokrovsk direction has seen especially heavy fighting. Malomuzh emphasized that the Russian military's primary goal remains the capture of Donbas and the entire Donetsk region. For context, Donetsk has been a focal point of Russia's broader campaign to control eastern Ukraine since the war began in 2014.
