Amir Khan announces boxing in Nigeria

The fight is scheduled for October 1, during which Rocky Fielding will come out of retirement to face American Brandon Glanton in the cruiserweight division.

The event will also feature former British light heavyweight champion Dan Aziz, who will also be boxing in his home country.

Joshua, whose parents are from Nigeria, has always dreamed of fighting in Africa, and his team has already been negotiating a possible fight in Ghana.

Thanks to Khan's initiative to develop boxing in Nigeria, he is ready to help Joshua return to his roots.

“Why not? Definitely. He is probably considering Ghana as an option, as his team has been negotiating with him in Ghana. So I’m sure that after Nigeria the same will happen again,”
Khan emphasized.

He highlighted that Nigeria would be the perfect place for the fight, as it is Joshua's homeland, and it makes more sense than holding the fight in Ghana. Khan noted:

“I would do it 100%. I am that type of person. Sometimes I am too honest for my own good.”

Khan also mentioned that he is always open to collaborating with others, striving to build good relationships with other promoters.

The situation with Joshua

Joshua, 35, has not stepped into the ring since September 2024 after losing to Daniel Dubois at Wembley. He has undergone elbow surgery and plans to return to the ring early next year.

Additionally, he has been offered negotiations for a possible fight with Jake Paul.

However, Paul, known as a YouTuber, has already announced an exhibition fight with Gervonta Davis on November 14 in Atlanta, despite the significant weight difference between them.

Khan criticized the situation, stating:

“It’s disgusting, and you know, someone can get seriously hurt in this whole spectacle of boxing.”

He also emphasized the importance of respecting boxing, noting that such cases do not exist in MMA, which provides greater safety for athletes.

Gervonta Davis plans to fight on November 14 Amid this year's boxing activity in Nigeria, the initiatives of Khan and Joshua are gaining momentum. Their potential fight aims not only to revive their careers but also to promote boxing in Africa. Both boxers have deep roots in Nigeria, highlighting their desire to return to their origins and support the development of the sport in their home region.
