KHAYAT on Rejecting a Russian Producer's Deal: The Choice to Stay in Ukraine.
Turning Down Collaboration with Russian Producers
According to Novyny.live: In 2019, Ukrainian artist Andriy Khayat (KHAYAT) received offers to work with Russian producers, including prominent figure Max Fadeev, which he ultimately declined. He emphasized that his commitment to creating music in Ukraine was the decisive factor in his choice not to relocate to Russia. Khayat stated he did not let these opportunities cloud his judgment, focusing instead on his desire to remain in his home country and support its local music industry.
Personal History and Future Ambitions
KHAYAT also opened up about his personal background, including being raised in a religious family during a period of living in the United States. He recounted a traumatic teenage experience when, at fifteen years old, he decided he no longer wanted to attend church. The artist said this experience profoundly shaped his worldview and creative output.
“All my songs written during the period of the full-scale war are born from this open wound, from this pain that I am experiencing,” he added.
Looking ahead, Khayat announced his plans to participate in Ukraine's National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026. This move reinforces his intent to continue his artistic career within Ukraine and engage with major international music platforms, marking a significant step in his professional journey. His decision highlights a trend among Ukrainian artists to prioritize national cultural development, especially during wartime. For a global audience, it's important to note that such cultural choices carry deep political and ethical weight in the context of the ongoing conflict.
