Achilles Injury Sidelines Yaremchuk: Will He Still Play for Ukraine’s National Team?.
Yaremchuk Faces a Setback
According to Novyny.live: Roman Yaremchuk missed the Ligue 1 clash between Lyon and Monaco due to an Achilles tendon injury. Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed the news after the match, stating:
“Roman Yaremchuk had an issue with his Achilles tendon”. The injury was detected on the morning of the game, which ultimately kept him out of the final squad selection.
Match Outcome
The 27th round Ligue 1 fixture, held at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, ended with a 1:2 victory for Monaco. Lyon took the lead in the 42nd minute with a goal from Schultz, but Akliouche equalized in the 62nd minute. Later, Balogun converted a penalty in the 72nd minute, securing the win for Monaco. Notably, Lyon is currently winless in eight matches, with four losses and three draws during that stretch.
Due to this injury, Yaremchuk may miss Ukraine’s March international fixtures. The national team has already begun training ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualification playoffs. Among the reserve forwards is Ihor Krasnopir, who could step in if needed.
Yaremchuk’s injury adds to Lyon’s difficulties during a tough period in the league. Losing a key striker could hurt their efforts to climb the Ligue 1 standings. For Ukraine, the situation is also concerning, as Yaremchuk plays a vital role in the squad, and his absence might disrupt preparations for the crucial World Cup qualifiers.
