The president of the 'Dnipro' club, Valeriy Kondratiev, reported that basketball player Volodymyr Konev will not be able to play in the crucial matches of the Ukrainian national team in the Eurobasket-2025 qualifiers. He was taken to the Lutsk TCC but is currently heading to Dnipro.

“The situation with Volodymyr Konev has been resolved and the player is currently heading to Dnipro. Unfortunately, Volodymyr will not be able to play for the national team of Ukraine during this window. Thank you to everyone who was concerned about this situation”, – said Kondratiev.

The president also compared Konev's importance to the basketball team to the importance of Zinchenko or Dovbik for the football team.

“It is hard to imagine if Zinchenko and Dovbik came to Ukraine, and then were not allowed to leave the country to play for the national team. I hope a similar situation does not happen again”, – noted Kondratiev.

It is worth noting that crucial matches of the Ukrainian basketball team in the Eurobasket-2025 qualifiers will take place in February.

Match schedule:

  • February 21: against Slovenia
  • February 24: against Portugal

Our national team needs to win two matches and hope that Portugal loses to Israel to qualify for the final part of the Eurobasket.

Let us remind you that basketball player of the 'Dnipro' club, Volodymyr Konev, was taken off the train he was traveling on to Latvia for the Ukrainian national team's matches and delivered to the Lutsk TCC.

“The Ukrainian basketball championship is taking a break due to the crucial matches of the qualifiers for the final part of the European Championship. The best players of the 'Dnipro' club, Volodymyr Konev and Daniil Sypalo, having a reservation from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, went to Latvia for the qualifying matches. However, for unknown reasons, Konev was removed from the train and taken to the TCC in Lutsk for clarification. I appeal to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Matviy Bidny, the head of the NOC, Vadym Huttsait, the general secretary of the FBU, Volodymyr Drabikovskyi, and the president of the FBU, Mykhailo Brodskyi, requesting help in resolving this situation and granting the player the opportunity to continue defending the honor of our country on the international stage – just as football players of the national team of Ukraine and representatives of other teams do”, – wrote Kondratiev on Facebook.
