Revealing Personal Life

David, who joined Radio 1 in the early 70s alongside veteran DJs like Tony Blackburn and Noel Edmunds, truly is a star at the BBC.

Today, the former Top Of The Pops host shared details of the affair that took place during his marriage to his first wife.

David married makeup artist Sheila Moore in 1962 when he was just 24. They had two children: Jane and David Jr., but the couple divorced in 1970.

However, David, known as 'Diddy' thanks to the nickname given to him by the late Ken Dodd, candidly discussed the affair that lasted while he was married to Sheila.

“I was happily married. Until I fell in love with someone else. I met her at Liverpool Street station. She was sitting on her suitcase in a fur coat that she later told me she had borrowed.”
“I just looked at her and thought: wow. I believe that children ruin marriages. Suddenly, the husband takes a back seat.”
“Then he meets someone young, free, and unmarried and thinks: 'Damn, I could go back to those happy times when I was before this.'”

Continuing, David said: “My wife found out because I often talked about Roz. I was head over heels in love. I left my wife and kids, and we lived together for four years.”

Relationship with the Escort

Talking about his relationship with the escort, David shared: “She asked if I could open her new shop and how much I would charge for that. I said '£500.'”

“She said she charges £100 for her services, so 'If you give me five, I'll give you one.' It sounded fair, so I took the first one that evening.”
“I thought that would be it. But we became very attached to each other.”

Society and New Life

David is now married to his second wife Drina, an aerobics instructor, whom he met on a blind date. They married in 1993 and are still together today.

Remembering the early years of their relationship, Drina said: 'When we started dating, there was a lot of noise.'

“My friends said: 'You can’t marry him. He’s a misogynist,’ but we’ve been together for 40 years, married for 30. And there’s no regret about it.”
“Drina is the wind beneath my wings. One of the reasons why it works is that she doesn’t put up with any nonsense from me!”

David Dickinson's candid confessions have sparked discussions about the role of personal relationships and the influence of family on marriage. His words highlight the importance of maintaining a balance between personal life and family responsibilities. Now at a new stage of life, with Drina, he has found that same support, which, in his words, is the key to a happy life.
