British brewery Adnams with a 135-year history closes two of its venues.
Closure of Adnams stores in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds
According to The Sun: The popular brewery and distillery with a 135-year history is closing two of its stores permanently.
The Adnams store on Westlegate in Norwich will close its doors this Saturday.
Trip AdvisorA notice has appeared in the shop window:
“A new chapter for Adnams in Norwich! We will close our doors on Westlegate this Saturday, September 13, but we will be glad to welcome you at our store a mile away at 109 Unthank Road. Thank you for your continued support.”
In addition, the brewery is closing the venue on Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds, Sussex.
Beer enthusiasts should hurry, as there is little time left to purchase their favorite drinks, including many award-winning beer and craft spirits.
Adnams also produces its own line of homeware and food products.
A company representative stated:
“Adnams has decided not to renew the leases of its two stores in East Anglia – Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds and Westlegate in Norwich. Both stores will continue to operate until Saturday, September 13. We are fully committed to both cities and grateful to many of our loyal customers in the region for their support.”
“In Bury St Edmunds, we are actively seeking a new location and look forward to announcing details of this exciting next phase soon. In Norwich, our store on Unthank Road will continue to serve customers with a wonderful Adnams experience, as well as additional services such as parking, local deliveries, in-store events, and gin refills.”
“Customers can also shop with us online at adnams.co.uk or at the nearest Adnams stores. We want to thank our customers for their continued loyalty and look forward to welcoming you again very soon.”
In June, the brewery reported a preliminary tax loss of £2.8 million for 2024.
It also appointed a new financial director, Andy Driscoll, on September 11, and continues to sell off non-core assets to reduce losses.
Last September, according to estimates by the Sun, Adnams’ Ghost Ship Ale received four out of five stars, confidently noting:
“Seemingly inspired by smugglers and our ghostly coastlines, this is a wonderful thirst quencher – and with its ghostly label it will undoubtedly be a great choice if you are buying beer for Halloween.”

The closure of Adnams stores introduces new challenges facing the brewery and reaffirms its commitment to continuing business in the region despite financial difficulties. The coming months may be crucial for the brand as they seek new opportunities for expansion and preserve their reputation among consumers.
