Ben Affleck's Daughter Calls for Return to Mask-Wearing

According to The Sun: Violet Affleck, the 19-year-old daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, has reached out to the UN requesting the reintroduction of mask mandates similar to those in place during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent outbreaks of illness.

Violet, who has a health issue from the virus, emotionally addressed the audience while wearing a large protective mask and clear glasses.

Call to Action and Personal Experience

Violet noted that the mask mandate was lifted too quickly, warning that COVID-19 still poses a threat. She said:

“This is the highest form of neglect - to look children in the eyes and say: 'We knew how to protect you, but we didn't do it.'

 

“For adults, the constant rhythm of 'returning to normal life' ignores, downplays, and hides the widespread aerosol transmission and the threat of long-term COVID, which has manifested in many cases.”

In summary, Violet declared that clean air is a “human right” and should be accessible just like clean water.

“We can create a clean air infrastructure that will be so common and clearly necessary that the children of tomorrow won’t even know why we needed it,”

- she added.

Violet, whose parents divorced in 2015, has already advocated for the importance of wearing masks. Last summer, she spoke before the Los Angeles City Council, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of regulations regarding mask-wearing in hospitals.

Recent Initiatives

In a video posted during the meeting, she said:

“Hi, I’m Violet Affleck, I live in Los Angeles, I’m voting for the first time. I’m 18 years old. I had a health issue after the virus in 2019.”

 

“I am fine now, but I have seen for myself that medicine does not always have answers to the effects even after minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic further emphasized this.”

A health issue after the virus, known as long COVID, can occur after a viral infection. Symptoms can include fatigue, memory problems, difficulty concentrating, and exhaustion that can last for months.

This May, Violet wrote an article for the Yale Global Health Review on Los Angeles' organized response to COVID-19. She argued that the complete elimination of the virus requires mask-wearing, offering paid sick leave to sick employees, and universal healthcare. Violet also called for an initiative to distribute free masks to those in need.
