According to Novyny.live: Free screenings of the documentary film 'Palianytsia' will be held in Kyiv on February 24th, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion. The events are scheduled to take place at Multiplex cinema theaters across Ukraine.
The film 'Palianytsia' was created by a team of artists from the United States, which includes Bandit, Tristan, Johnny, and Kateryna Tymchenko from Ukraine. Over the course of two and a half years, the team produced 33 wall graffiti pieces that reflect current themes of war and culture. 'Palianytsia' became part of the Culture vs War film marathon and has been shown in 18 countries worldwide, with over 60 screenings in total. Its Ukrainian festival premiere took place at the 54th International Youth Film Festival.
Organizing the Screenings and the Creators' Vision
The screenings are organized by the State Film Agency of Ukraine, the 'Multiplex' cinema network, and the 'Watch Ukrainian!' Association. Two sessions are planned: at 4:00 PM on February 24th at MULTIPLEX Prospekt and at 7:00 PM at MULTIPLEX Retroville ScreenX.
'I always thought walls were silent, but now I know: in Ukraine, they scream louder than the drawings. Every crack is a story, every wound is someone who is no longer here. Art is a way to speak to the world when you fear it won't hear you, and it's a way to say: We are here. We are alive. We are on the side of light. Every brushstroke is a challenge not to the world, but to oneself.' — Bandit, one of the film's authors
These screenings of 'Palianytsia' will serve as a significant event, reflecting the cultural and social context of contemporary Ukraine in the shadow of war. This documentary offers international audiences a poignant look at how Ukrainian artists process and respond to the ongoing conflict. The events not only honor the memory of the war's victims but also underscore the role of art as a form of resistance and self-expression during conflict. The joint efforts of artists and cultural organizations demonstrate how culture can remain vibrant even in the most difficult times, sustaining the moral spirit of society.
