The White House Doubts the Provision of New Proposals on the Gaza Deal - Media.
The White House administration is revising its strategy regarding the release of hostages and ceasefire in Gaza. But there are doubts about new proposals due to the tough stance of Hamas and Israel in the negotiations - reports Axios.
Top aides to U.S. President Joe Biden are considering presenting a new proposal. But since Hamas and Israel are taking tougher positions, this casts doubt on reaching an agreement in the near future.
Last week, Biden's aides assessed the progress of the negotiations and are gradually becoming disillusioned with the chances of a deal.
The killing of six hostages by Hamas, including a U.S. citizen, and the group's new demand for the release of 100 Palestinian prisoners have caused a negative reaction in the White House.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the need to maintain full Israeli military control along the Philadelphi Corridor at a press conference. This led to disappointment.
White House officials are facing a complex dilemma because, in their opinion, the Hamas leader is unwilling to make a deal. And even if he does, Biden does not want to be seen as rewarding Hamas for new concessions, especially after the killing of hostages and the setting of more extreme demands.
The Biden administration continues to work with Qatar and Egypt on a more detailed proposal for the deal. However, so far no formula has been proposed that would resolve the differences. The main focus is on whether Egypt and Qatar can influence the Hamas Leader to soften his demands.
On the Israeli side, there has been no significant progress in recent days.
