Market Study Reveals Hidden Damage in Majority of Ukraine's Used Cars.
State of the Used Car Market in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: A study by carVertical has found that over 54% of used cars in Ukraine have a history of recorded damage. Notably, 1.9% of these vehicles require repairs costing more than half of their market value, highlighting significant financial risks for unwary buyers. The Ukrainian used car market has grown significantly in recent years, making this data particularly relevant for consumers.
According to the research, 54.7% of inspected used vehicles in Ukraine have documented damage. The majority of these cases—89.2%—involve minor damage, with repair costs not exceeding 20% of the car's market price. However, the situation with severe defects is concerning: 1.9% of cars have damage so extensive that the repair expenses could surpass half of their market value.
Comparison with Other European Nations
It is worth noting that the rate of severe accident damage is significantly higher in several other European countries. The highest figures were recorded in:
- Italy – 7.8%
- Germany – 7.7%
- Sweden – 5.8%
- Spain – 4.5%
This indicates that importing cars from these nations also carries substantial risks for Ukrainian buyers.
In light of these findings, Ukraine's automotive market faces challenges related to the quality of second-hand vehicles. Potential buyers should exercise extreme caution, as a considerable number of cars may have hidden flaws requiring major financial outlays for repairs.
The research underscores the critical importance of thoroughly checking a vehicle's history before purchase, as the risk of acquiring a car with serious defects can lead to significant financial losses.
Given the increasing import of cars from countries with higher damage rates, consumers must be especially vigilant and utilize all available resources to verify a vehicle's condition before committing to a purchase.
