A British Climber Breaks the Record for Climbing Everest

Climber Kenton Cool made his 19th ascent to the summit of Everest, setting a new world record among tourists. He climbed the 8,849-meter peak alongside Nepalese Sherpa Dorje Gyeljen, who has reached the summit for the 23rd time.

Kenton Cool is a 51-year-old mountaineering guide from the southwest of England. He first summited Everest in 2004 and has repeated the ascent almost every year since, except in 2014, 2015, and 2020, when the seasons were canceled due to various natural or global events.

While Sherpa Kami Rita remains the absolute record holder with 30 ascents of Everest, Cool's achievement is the highest among climbers who are not Sherpas.
