British New Look closes another store: which locations will cease operations.
Closure of another New Look store
According to The Sun: The popular British retailer New Look has announced the closure of another of its stores, marking another blow to high street retail. The company has already closed 13 of its locations across the country.
GettyThis time the closure concerns the store in Hinckley, located in the Britannia shopping center on Stockwell Head. The store will cease operations on Tuesday, December 9.
A company representative stated:
“We would like to thank all our employees and the local community for their support over the years. We hope that customers will continue to shop online, where they can find the full range of products.”
Customers can continue shopping at New Look in the three remaining stores in Market Harborough, Leicester's Highcross Shopping Centre, and Fosse Shopping Park.
Further closures
The retail chain, which has 338 stores across the UK, plans to close more than a dozen locations by the end of 2025. For example, the store in Scarborough closed its doors on September 17, and another in Wales ceased operations in August. The first closure of 2025 was the store in Wickford, Essex.
The list of closures also includes stores in Loughborough, St Austell (Cornwall), and at Team Valley Retail World in Gateshead.
Already this year, 13 stores have been closed in the UK and 26 in Ireland. The company had warned of possible closures of nearly 100 stores due to rising national insurance contributions.
Enhancing online sales
Over the past six years, the company has already undergone two network restructures. It has significantly reduced its presence on the streets: in 2018, New Look had 600 stores. However, not all is bad: the company will invest in upgrading existing stores across the country.
In April, the chain secured an investment of over £30 million to develop its online department. More than 40% of the group's revenue is generated online, as customers increasingly choose digital shopping.
A company representative explained:
“Our network of stores is an important part of our business alongside our best-in-class website and app. This allows us to best serve 10 million of our customers, no matter how they prefer to shop.”
In the future, the company plans to continue investing in its successful online platform, which has already provided significant growth in online sales.
The closure of New Look stores reflects the challenging trends in the retail sector that have been influenced by changes in young consumers and the rise of online trading. As recent events show, companies are rethinking their strategies to adapt to new market conditions and respond to the needs of their customers.
