The situation at the front and the prospects for a ceasefire

Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, General Kyrylo Budanov, expressed his opinion on the situation at the front and the possibility of a ceasefire this year. In an interview with journalist Eynull Fatullayev, he also commented on the recent disinformation of Russian origin about his alleged death.

Recent attack and disinformation

General Kyrylo Budanov commented on Russian claims regarding the attack on the 'Bristol' hotel in Odesa, where, according to the Kremlin, he allegedly met with NATO generals. He confirmed that this is disinformation, which is part of the hybrid war that Russia is waging. Budanov noted that during the day we also learned that he was not at the hotel at times. He emphasized that Russia is waging this war at an unprofessional level.

On the work of military intelligence

The head of Ukrainian intelligence noted that he did not create anything new, but made the system work as it should. He stressed that success came through the involvement of new forces and the assignment of clear tasks with control over their implementation.

Prospects for 2024

When asked about the possibility of a ceasefire in 2024, Budanov expressed cautious optimism. He believes that it will be possible to achieve a ceasefire this year, but he cannot predict how effective it will be. At the same Time, he expressed doubts about international guarantees for peacekeepers, noting that there are no examples of successful peacekeeping missions in the world.

Current situation at the front

According to Budanov, the situation at the front is complicated. He warned that statements about a completely good situation at the front do not correspond to reality. Problems exist, but there will be no collapse. He assured that he will try to keep the situation under control and prevent any problems at the front.

Vision of the post-conflict period

The general dismissed the possibility of transitioning to a more authoritarian model of governance after the conflict ends. He emphasized that Ukraine is a democracy, and it is important to preserve democratic values. Ukraine's path must be based on tolerance and inclusivity, which are only possible in a democratic society.

Russia's hybrid war

Budanov expressed confidence that Ukraine is prepared for attempts at destabilization from Russia. He emphasized that over the past 11 years, many scenarios of Russia's actions have been worked out, so they will not be able to surprise Ukraine with anything new. He assured that he will do everything possible to counter any threats.

International guarantees

Budanov responded to a question about international guarantees, stating that there is no example of successful peacekeeping missions in the world. He doubts whether this can be considered a guarantee. According to him, there is currently no format that provides a real guarantee.

Trump's general plan

He noted that the Republican administration of Donald Trump directs its actions towards stopping the war, as Trump himself announced. Budanov emphasized that this does not imply the victory of one side or the defeat of another, but is an attempt to do exactly what was stated.

The head of Ukrainian intelligence expressed confidence that Ukraine and Russia will try to use the situation to their advantage and will attempt to adjust it in their favor.
