Estimated Budget for the 2026 Winter Olympics

According to Novyny.live: The projected budget for the 2026 Winter Olympics has now reached at least €3.5 billion, a figure that significantly exceeds initial forecasts. The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6, 2026, at 9:00 PM Kyiv time. More than 3,500 athletes will compete for 116 medal sets across 16 different sports.

Organizers plan to complete 98 infrastructure projects in preparation for the Games, with 47 of them directly related to the event's operations. However, one in four of these projects will not be finished before the competitions begin. The total organizational costs for the Olympics are now estimated to be between €5.7 and €5.9 billion.

Ukraine's Delegation and Organizational Challenges

Ukraine will be represented by 46 athletes, marking its largest delegation to a Winter Olympics since 2010. The budget for the Milano Cortina 2026 project was initially estimated at €1.36 billion in 2019, but financial requirements have grown substantially, reflecting the complexity and scale of preparing for a modern global event.

The planned 2026 Winter Games in Italy are proving to be an increasingly complex and costly undertaking. The budget escalation highlights the significant challenges faced by organizers, particularly in ensuring infrastructure readiness. The participation of 46 Ukrainian athletes underscores the growing support for winter sports in the country, potentially boosting their domestic profile. The Olympics are expected to serve as a crucial platform for showcasing Ukraine's athletic achievements on the world stage, coming at a time of significant national focus on international representation.
